Lawmakers Rehash the Private Option Vote

LITTLE ROCK, AR - It was one of the toughest votes in recent memory at the state capitol.

We're talking about the private option health care expansion. A group of four lawmakers recounting the struggle to approve the program at the governor's mansion this afternoon. The plan has added more than 100-thousand people to insurance rolls in Arkansas. But democrats say it took a while before their voices were heard on the plan.

"We began to have a seat at the table and began to talk about what we would do going forward. And I think that speaks volumes to the ability of Arkansans to deal with a matter civily and reach common ground. And that is what we did," says Linda Chesterfield.

The Department of Human Services says nearly 200-thousand Arkansans have applied to receive health care coverage as part of the private option.
