Injured 3-Year-Old Remembers Concrete Slab Accident

SALINE COUNTY, AR -- On May 20th, 3-year-old Brayden Bohac was walking with his family outside their motel room at the Capri Inn in Benton when a concrete piece of a wall fell off the building onto his foot.  Brayden has had three surgeries and has to go back to the hospital once a week for check ups, and he spends most of his time in a wheelchair with a cast.

Two weeks after the accident, this toddler still remembers that night.

Brayden said, "It came down and hit my foot."

"The rock at the motel feel down."

"It hit me right on the foot."
Brayden's father, Joshua, said, "Nobody should have to go through it, I wouldn't wish it on anybody."

As for the future of his foot, it's not known what will happen when the cast is taken off.

Brayden's mother, Tabatha, said her son has changed, "He was very outgoing, he was always moving, always wanting to be outside."

"The only thing I can really do with him that doesn't put too much pressure on his leg or hurt him or anything, is coloring or painting."

These parents are still frustrated that the accident happened, but now they are changing their attitude to make Brayden feel as normal as possible.

Joshua said, "My main priority is him now."

The family goes on walks and even pretends Bradyen's wheelchair is a race car.

Joshua said, "When I get home from work, that's all I do, I play with him."

"Cause it gives him some entertainment instead of just sitting still all the time."

As Brayden plays, the family is searching for a smile, which Joshua said is special, "It means a lot."

According to the city of Benton, the motel has passed a code inspection.  The code office tells us all of the decorative concrete blocks, like the one that fell on Brayden, have been removed and will be replaced with wood or vinyl.
