Education Matters: At-Risk Youth Graduation

LITTLE ROCK, AR - "The National Guard deserves the thanks, the love and appreciation of three million Arkansans."

Governor Mike Beebe was on hand for today's graduation ceremony for the Guard's Youth Challenge Program.

The military style course is a behavior modification program for at-risk young adults. And while these students stay on their normal school schedule they're able to volunteer their time and find a sense of direction.

"It's a win win for the school that the young person is now prospering, it's a win win for the family who is having difficulty with that young person, and it's also a win for the young person who now has a format where they can get their life in order," says Hugh Leavell, Director of Community Affairs.

The Arkansas National Guard Youth Challenge Program is now accepting applications.

The next class begins July 17.
