AR's First Commercial CNG Station Opens in Springdale

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Northwest Arkansas's first commercial compressed natural gas fueling station is on it's way.

The fueling stations are coming to two Sprigndale Kum & Go's.

CNG burns cleaner, and is cheaper. Right now the equivalent of a gallon of gas runs just $1.55 for CNG.

Springdale's water utility isn't wasting any time getting on board.

On Wednesday the Springdale Sewer and Water Commission decided to buy two vehicles that run on CNG for it's fleet in hopes to save money on fuel costs.

"We really want to be the leader in northwest Arkansas to support the CNG movement. We think there's a lot of potential savings for our fleet long term and this will be a nice pilot program to get started," says Heath Ward.

The first CNG station should be up and running before the end of this year.

The water utility plans to drive the vehicles for three to six months to test the savings, and eventually may add six more to the fleet.
