Nearly 50 Heifer International Project Beneficiaries Killed In Nepal Flooding

LITTLE ROCK, AR- Arkansas based Heifer International is mourning the loss of project beneficiaries in Nepal after the country was hit with days of torrential rain and severe flooding.

The worldwide organization continues to receive a steady stream of updates from staff in Nepal. They're reporting close to 50 project beneficiaries killed by the flooding.

About 100 farmers are still missing and more than 2,500 houses were destroyed or damaged. Thousands of acres of croplands have also been destroyed.

"Our communities are now evacuated and they are trying to find a shelter like a secure community hall," says Dilip Bhandari with Heifer International.

Bhandari says staff is assessing the five districts hit by severe flooding. Early numbers count nearly 950 livestock deaths.
