Runaway I-40 Trailer Accident Victim Able to Leave Hospital

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Five days after a runaway trailer on Interstate 40 smashed into the front of her car, the 17-year-old in the driver seat that day, is able to leave the hospital.

Shantell Standridge hasn't had an easy road and won't for the immediate future but she at least is now at home.

She's had a screw placed in her knee, surgery on her broken femur and on her broken, dislocated hip.

She also needed about 60 staples to close gashes suffered from the accident.

"[It's] Just kind of overwhelming that it happened so fast," Shantell said. "Like, the other day I was just in my car driving, being able to walk and now I can't even walk without my walker. I can't -- I won't be able to go to school."

Shantell and her family have questioned the use of safety chains in the wreck.

Arkansas State Police say there is still an active investigation into the accident.

According to descriptions of the wreck, the trailer unhitched somehow from an oncoming pickup truck, and crossed the median into the westbound lanes of I-40 near Maumelle.
