LITTLE ROCK, AR - Sen. Mark Pryor (D) has debuted a new campaign ad where he and his father highlight the benefits of the Affordable Care Act. The advertisement is already airing on KARK-TV.

"When Mark was diagnosed with cancer, we thought we might lose him," former Senator David Pryor says in the ad. "Mark’s insurance company didn't want to pay for the treatment that ultimately saved his life."

"No one should be fighting an insurance company while you're fighting for your life. That's why I helped pass a law that prevents insurance companies from canceling your policy if you get sick, or deny coverage for preexisting conditions," adds the younger Pryor.

Hal Bass, a political science professor at Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia calls the ad both daring and cautious.

"It's daring in the sense that it does address his support for health care reform but it does so without ever mentioning the words Obama or Obamacare or Affordable Care Act," Bass says.  "Cotton would prefer to present the issue in ideological terms and less so in these personal type terms."

Pryor's Republican Opponent Tom Cotton released the following statement in response to the ad:

"We thank God that Senator Pryor survived cancer, and we admire his courage in that fight. However, we didn’t need Obamacare to change insurance regulations. We all agree that nobody should be denied coverage due to a preexisting condition," spokesperson David Ray says.
