PINE BLUFF, AR -- A lawsuit may be the only way to keep a mayoral election from happening in Pine Bluff this year.

That's according to a report in the Pine Bluff Commercial.

The Jefferson County Election Commission decided to move forward with a 2014 election even though the Secretary of State's office said an election shouldn't happen until 2016.

The Secretary of State's office says there's nothing it can do at this point to keep the race off the ballot.

Former Mayor Carl Redus was the only candidate to file for the post.
