Money Matters: Free Tax Help Event

(News Release) - Imagine the difference an additional $3,000 or more in federal tax credits could make in the life of a low-income family working in Arkansas. These extra dollars could be used to purchase groceries, provide school tuition or help pay bills.

Entergy Arkansas has partnered with the Arkansas Workforce Center to help qualifying residents secure their share of these refunds by raising awareness of Earned Income Tax Credits and supporting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance free tax preparation sites in local communities. Based on income and the number of children in the household, qualifying working families could receive up to $6,000 through EITC.

While approximately 400,000 Arkansas families that earn less than $52,000 annually qualify for EITC, the Internal Revenue Service said many individuals who are eligible are not claiming the credit on their tax returns. In Arkansas alone, almost $190 million of these federal tax credits are going unclaimed.

Super Saturday will be February 1. The event will take place from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Arkansas Workforce Center located at 5401 S. University Avenue. While reservations are not required, those wishing to secure a time may call 501-682-7719. Free tax help to those who qualify will also be available at dozens of locations throughout Little Rock and the state until Tax Day on April 15.
