PINE BLUFF, AR -- Shortly before 10:00 P.M. Friday night, a fatality pedestrian collision occurred at U.S.79 and Union Street in Pine Bluff.
14-year-old Charles E. Jones died in the collision.
Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle that struck Jones was traveling south on U.S. 79 and collided with Jones as he and another group of children were trying to cross U.S. 79 going west at Union Street.
After the collision, the Avenger left the scene.
A witness at the collision gave a description of the vehicle and driver.
When the information was broadcast to units in the area, a Pine Bluff Police unit located the suspect vehicle at 13th and Dearborn.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Jontrel Collins, was taken into custody without incident and will be charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Negligent Homicide and Driving While Intoxicated.
Alcohol level in Collins is not known at this time.
A blood sample was drawn and has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime lab for analysis, according to police.
The Traffic Division is still investigating the collision.
The Pine Bluff Police Detective Division is investigating the felony charges of Leaving the Scene and the Negligent Homicide.
