BRYANT, AR --The Bryant School District has approved a new interim superintendent after the board voted to suspend Superintendent Randy Rutherford for 30 days with pay.

At a special meeting Tuesday the school board spent an hour and a half in executive session.

Leaders remain quiet over Rutherford's suspension, refusing to say why they placed him on leave. After executive session the board approved Fred Dawson as interim superintendent.

"I hope to be a help to the school district in my tenure here as an interim superintendent. It's a very good school district, we hope to keep it moving in a positive direction," says Dawson.

Dawson served as superintendent to Bauxite, Benton and other districts across Arkansas. Dawson starts March 12.
