LITTLE ROCK, AR - A Benton girl recovering from parasitic meningitis has written her name for the first time since falling ill three weeks ago.

The mother of 12-year-old Kali Hardig posted the following on Facebook around 10:00 this morning:
Kali wrote her name for the first time this morning. I'm so very proud of my baby! She is doing so good!

Kali was diagnosed with the often fatal brain-eating illness in July.

Her recovery continues at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
