Health Matters: Private Option Enrollment Numbers Up

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Because health matters more Arkansans continue to sign up for the state's private option.

According to the Department of Human Services, more than 184,000 in the state have enrolled in Arkansas' compromise Medicaid expansion.

However, some questions at a legislative hearing about benefits in the various plans.

None of the plans will offer dental or vision coverage next year, but one lawmaker says enrolees don't learn that until just before they finish signing up.

"I don't think that was what we intended when we said no media, no advertising. That, to me, is like preventing a deceptive trade practice," says Stephanie Flowers.

The Arkansas Insurance Department says it's possible dental or vision could be offered to private option enrolees again in 2016, if lawmakers decide to add it.
