LITTLE ROCK, AR - Another phase is complete in the effort to update and build upon the Arkansas Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan.
Over the Spring, the staff of the Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department (AHTD) and consultant team conducted 25 listening sessions with stakeholders in every part of the state.
Officials say turnout across the state was great, and the quality of input and dialogue was tremendous. AHTD heard from every sector of local and regional government, as well as university transportation departments, and local bicycle, pedestrian and trail advocates. Notes from all 25 meetings are now available online for public review (click here).
In many of the meetings, AHTD policy issues were raised and participants discussed the strengths and weaknesses of these policies, especially as they impact local priorities and concerns related to bicycling and walking.
Along with the AHTD, the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, Arkansas Department of Health and Arkansas State Police are working on the plan.
The 18-month planning process started last Fall and runs to the Winter of 2015. The plan was featured in the July issue of Arkansas Highways magazine.
