Fayetteville , Arkansas -
FAYETTEVILLE, AR (News release) - The Walmart Foundation has awarded LifeSource International of Fayetteville, $50,000 to support its food pantry program, which helps feed more than 3,000 people each month in Northwest Arkansas.
The U.S. Census Bureau predicts that by 2015 Northwest Arkansas will exceed Pulaski County in the number of people facing food insecurity each month.
LifeSource is a charity founded in 2001 as a small food pantry. Today LifeSource serves more than 55,000 people in Northwest Arkansas for free through seven programs: a food and clothing pantry, an after-school and summer camp program for youth, adult education classes, counseling, Senior Saturday lunches, a community outreach meal once a month, and medical referrals.
“We are honored to have Walmart as a partner with us in our fight against hunger and poverty,” said Jimmie Conduff, assistant executive director at LifeSource. “Each month we distribute up to 18,000 pounds of food. We could not have such an impact without the support of foundations such as Walmart, which has always given generously to the people of Arkansas and to communities throughout the nation.”
