Hot Springs Unveils New Tourism Study

HOT SPRINGS, AR - Tourism continues to be big business for Hot Springs.

The results of a tourism research project were unveiled Monday afternoon at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Longwoods International completed the study. It's expertise in tourism tracking dates back to 1985. Longwoods has conducted large-scale syndicated visitor research quarterly since 1990.

The report presented today provides an overview of Hot Springs’s domestic travel and tourism business in the combined years 2011 to 2013.

In 2013, Hot Springs welcomed 6.7 million visitors. Of those, 2.7 million were overnight trips and 4 million were day trips. These numbers include both adults and children. The ratio of adults to kids in overnight and day travel parties was about 3 to 1.

Business trips to Hot Springs were evenly split between trips oriented to conventions/conferences and those for other purposes, e.g., sales/service, meetings, etc.

Day travel to Hot Springs in 2013, like overnight travel, was mainly for leisure (91 percent of trips) rather than business (8 percent) or combined business-leisure (1 percent).
